My Approach

Rooted in connection…

I specialize in working with women navigating pregnancy, postpartum challenges, motherhood, and anxiety. I believe healing happens in safe, supportive relationships — including the one we build in therapy. In our sessions, I'll draw on a variety of therapeutic modalities as we work toward your unique goals at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Understanding how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence each other — and learning to reshape unhelpful patterns.

DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Building skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and navigating relationships with more balance and clarity.

Attachment

Attachment Theory

Exploring how early relationships shape the way you connect now — and creating space for healthier patterns to emerge.

Self-Compassion

Self-Compassion

Responding to internal distress with understanding, care, and balance — rather than criticism or avoidance.

What we work toward

My goal is
to help you:

  • Reconnect with your sense of self beyond motherhood
  • Work through anxiety, old patterns, or past wounds that resurface in parenting
  • Build practical coping skills and self-compassion tools for daily life
About Me

Hi, I'm Megan Darkins.

Megan Darkins, LCSW, founder of Balanced Life Counseling, specializing in postpartum and maternal mental health

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Oregon, providing virtual therapy to individuals in Oregon and Virginia.

My passion for supporting women through pregnancy and motherhood runs deep — before private practice, I spent years working in a hospital labor and delivery and NICU unit, walking alongside women and families through some of the most profound and challenging moments of their lives.

My own journey into motherhood has only deepened the way I show up as a therapist — with empathy and zero judgment, because wow, being a parent is hard. I know what it feels like to struggle to connect with your newborn. I was the mom stress ordering every swaddle on the market, at 3am, with the promise it would help my baby sleep more than a few hours (spoiler alert - there’s no magic swaddle!) I understand the toll that motherhood can take on your mental health because I’ve been there too.

When we work together, you won't just get a trained therapist. You will get another mom who truly understands what you are going through.

Outside of therapy, I love spending time with my husband and our two beautiful kids. My hobbies include drinking coffee, neighborhood walks, dinosaur lectures from my preschooler, and lounging on the couch with a good show.
